Sailing to Ekincik Bay
A sheltered bay flanked by pine hills, Ekincik is the ideal first stop from Marmaris and your river gateway to ancient Caunos and the Dalyan delta.
Tucked into the rugged coastline just east of Marmaris, Ekincik Bay serves as the natural maritime gateway to ancient Caunos and the winding delta of Dalyan. Framed by steep pine-clad slopes and sheer cliffs, this deep, protected bay provides a serene overnight anchorage after an easy passage across the open waters of the Mediterranean.
Ashore and Inland Wonders
While Ekincik itself offers a relaxed beachfront atmosphere with waterfront tavernas, the main attraction lies just around the headland. Local riverboats collect visiting crews directly from the bay to navigate the reed-fringed Dalyan River. Exploring ashore reveals the impressive Lycian rock tombs carved high into the river cliffs, the sprawling Greco-Roman ruins of Caunos, and the protected sands of Iztuzu Beach, known as a vital nesting ground for loggerhead sea turtles.
Anchorages and Mooring
Ekincik offers several mooring options depending on weather and crew preferences. The western cove provides a well-organized cooperative pontoon equipped with laid moorings, water, and dining facilities. Sailors preferring to swing at anchor will find good holding in sand and mud across the northern and northeastern bights, though anchoring depths increase rapidly near the shorelines. It remains well sheltered from prevailing northwesterly summer breezes.
Planning Your Charter Passage
Located roughly twenty nautical miles east of Netsel Marmaris Marina, Ekincik makes an ideal first or final day passage on an itinerary heading toward Göcek and Fethiye. The sailing season extends comfortably from April through November, with consistent afternoon winds and calm mornings allowing for an effortless passage along the dramatic coastline.
